Houseboat rentals provide the perfect mobile vacation spot for families and friends to reunite and relax.
A common question we getis whether children are safe on the boats. We understand that you want to spend time with all your loved ones, and that includes small kids. We also know that you want them to be safe.
That’s why nearly every houseboat has protections in place for children of all ages.
While houseboat rentals are safe for little kids, the responsibility for their safety lies with you. A houseboat can have all of the best safety equipment, but if you don’t use it, it won’t be of any benefit.
That’s why we’ve outlined four ways you can help keep children safe on your boat rental.
1. Set rules on day one
Before you even set foot on the boat, you should have a discussion with your child about boat and water safety.
Setting rules from the very beginning will help avoid problems early on. Some good rules involve not swimming while the boat is moving and not being outside the cabin without a life jacket.
2. Always Keep the lifejacket on
The main concern parents and family members have is the risk of drowning. The solution to this is to always keep your child in a life jacket. It doesn’t take long to lose track of a child, so you’ll want to make sure that even when your eyes are off them, they are protected.
If your child knows how to take their lifejacket off by themselves, you may have to provide more supervision to prevent them from taking their life jacket off whenever they want.
3. Keep railings and gates closed
Houseboat rentals all have railings, gates, and doors to protect your child from getting into the water accidentally. Be diligent in closing the doors and gates behind you when you exit the cabin area.
4. keep an eye out for danger on board
The lake or river isn’t the only source of danger. Just like all homes, you must take precautions with your children. Many boats have spas and Jacuzzis. It’s important to supervise your child around these areas as well.
