Sleeping and bathroom
Most rental fleets do not include sheets, pillows, or towels unless the marina states otherwise. Bring one set of bedding per real bed, at least one bath towel per guest, and a few extra beach towels for swimming.

- Sleeping bags or light blankets for shoulder-season nights
- Bath towels, beach towels, hand towels, dishtowels
- Toiletries, sunscreen, aloe, insect repellent

Kitchen and food
Rental kitchens usually include pans, utensils, plates, and glassware, but not consumables. Plan meals before you shop and pre-portion where you can — refrigerator space on a houseboat is limited compared to home.
- Coolers with ice (in addition to the boat fridge)
- Reusable water bottles for every guest
- Coffee, filters, and a manual grinder if needed
- Non-perishables that survive heat: pasta, tortillas, snack bars
- Foil, plastic wrap, resealable bags, trash bags
- Dish soap, sponges, paper towels
Clothing and footwear
Days on the water are hot; nights can drop fast, especially in high desert or mountain lakes. Pack layers and avoid cotton for anything that will get wet.
- Swimsuits (two per guest is comfortable)
- Quick-dry shorts and shirts
- One warm layer per guest for evenings
- Rain jacket or windbreaker
- Water shoes and one pair of soft-soled boat shoes
- Hat with a chin strap; polarized sunglasses
Safety and small gear
The boat has required safety equipment, but small personal items are yours to bring. Anything you'd want during a night anchored in a quiet cove is worth adding.
- Headlamps or flashlights (one per guest) plus batteries
- First-aid kit tuned to your group (kids, allergies, medications)
- Phone chargers and a car-style USB adapter
- Waterproof phone pouches
- Duct tape, zip ties, and a small multi-tool
- Printed marina address and check-in instructions
Water toys and activities
Most marinas rent kayaks, paddleboards, and tubes as add-ons — reserve them with the boat if you want them. If you're bringing your own gear, confirm storage and towing rules with the marina before you drive.
- Inflatable floats and pool noodles
- Snorkel gear
- Fishing rods, tackle, and a current state fishing license
- Board games, cards, and a waterproof speaker
- Marine-safe grill supplies if the boat has a grill
